Kara was turning 35 and Rick 50 so we decided to throw and 80’s themed birthday party. We met Kara at their home in Coral Gables. When I arrived the home was under construction and looked far from finished…. She told me the party would be held there, which was fine since we were 3 months away but that she would be moving in 2 weeks!!! When this woman sets her mind to something, she makes it happen. We could not believe it but she got it done. The house was finished in 2 weeks and she moved in! The house was perfect for a party, situated right on the water with a long gorgeous back yard.
Kara and Rick are a super fun couple that love to party. They wanted their birthday to be an unforgettable fun bash and for their friends, who flew in from all over. To make this happen we focused on every detail. Nothing was more important than our hosts looking amazing. For that we hired makeup extraordinaire Katy Taurel for hair and makeup. Kara's stylist put together an incredible outfit with ripped jean shorts and a leather studded top. Rick was out of this world with a long wig, yellow t shirt and jean vest. The costumes were crazy amazing. All the guests came in theme as stock brokers, madonnas, top guns, gosht busters and rockers. To set the tone, as guests entered the party, we had two servers with trays of led shot glass necklaces giving shots of tequila. No shot no entrance! A giant rubik's cube was placed inside the house as a backdrop to the shots.
As guests ventured into the back yard, they entered into a parallel 80's world. Complete with neon lighting and funky glow furniture, lip sofas and crazy colored chairs from Bubble and Brelex. Each lounge had a tequila station of course. For the centerpieces we did rubiks cubes filled with gerberas for touches of color. We customer oversized boom boxes, rubiks cubes, cassettes, lipsticks and lips to hang throughout the property for areal decor. For the dance floor we designed an image of cassette tapes in neon colors to tie it all in.
The highlight of the party was the band. We flew in the Spazmatics with the help of Elan Artists and the guests went wild. The band is a legit 80’s cover band with costumes and all. Behind the stage was a large led wall and on top of the wall was a led boom box with DJ Oscar Lealspinning from the top. We even added railings around the dance floor so guests would not fall into the water after all the tequila being passed. Pete Diaz Productions did an incredible job with the video content for the LED screens, from videos to pacman and other 80’s related images. The Lazer show was amazing and guests did not want to leave.
Everything was themed, even the food. Joy Wallace catered and did things like multi colored grilled cheese sandwiches, which were a huge hit. The staff was beyond fun dancing as they served the food. Entertainers from Joy added to this fun birthday party with break dancers, Michael Jacksons, Madonnas and many more 80's characters. Late night we served pizza and crispy creme doughnuts right out of the box. A great way to help guests sober up! This was for sure a night they will never forget, and neither will we!!!
